Roles affect our behavior: the nature of roles is a kind of behavior expectation generated by people in the relationship, and it is an implicit contract reached by the people in the relationship.
The contradiction between “requirement” and “expectation”: When someone tells us something, he has a role expectation of us. This role expectation provides behavioral clues that allow us to respond unconsciously and make behaviors that meet the expectations of others.
If we always fix ourselves in a certain role and regard the words and deeds stipulated by this role as our own personality, over time, we will forget that we have other possibilities, and it is difficult for our ego to have further possibilities. Change and development. On the contrary, if we can try many different roles and discover more aspects of ourselves, we can develop better.

Reflective statement:
The implicit contract mentioned by the author, as a student, it is difficult for me to get rid of the identity of a student, but once I enter the society, sudden changes will make people uncomfortable. For example, I am now facing graduation and looking for a job, and there has been no role change before. Trying, it will be very stressful. How can we achieve a role change? My current thinking is, for example, the transformation of students and teachers, the transformation of parents and children. intervention.
“This kind of role expectation provides behavioral clues that make us respond unconsciously and make behaviors that meet the expectations of others.” The author’s sentence gave me some inspiration about improving the personality of Chinese high school students and making them imagine that they have graduated. , What kind of clothes will you wear to express your personality when you are an adult in college?
In analyzing my work by brainstorming and purpose chart, I feel this project more clearly leads to bringing two areas together, creative connections between two different fields fashion design and psychology knowledge. I feel good about it, make this question more unique. Next step of research I will look at more psychology side and art therapy articles. And I am thinking about making a new question ‘How fashion therapy helps Chinese high school students to better build their personal character?’ Include more detail to control the first imagination about this question.
In the face of the school’s ambition to unify management, a strong desire for self-help was aroused.
From the convenience service station in the community to the chain store on the first floor of the clothing wholesale market, Shenzhen middle school students holding Mata university uniforms calling for help were crowded. The length of the trousers is changed to shorter, the trouser legs are changed to smaller, and the trouser legs are narrowed. Changing the trouser legs looks cool, but if they are too public, they will be targeted by the teacher. Veteran students will shrink the trouser legs to 4.5 inches, and those who dare to shrink the trouser legs below 4 inches are often taken down by the inspected teacher at the school gate. The happiest thing in my student days is not not following the school rules, but having fun in the circles drawn by the rules.
Pants with small feet are no longer popular. Young people on the street will no longer make any changes to their pants. The original-size pants are so long that they mop the floor. Only the top is modified, and the golden ratio of 0.618 is changed.
Inspected 20 school uniforms in 16 cities across the country, and detected reproductive toxicity and various quality problems.
Of the 20 school uniforms sent by parents, 11 were unqualified. Five of them were found to exceed the standard for phthalates in accordance with EU standards. One of the school uniforms exceeded the standard by nearly 200 times.
the poison in school uniforms: Embroidery logo, Velcro on the cuffs, school uniform zipper, Logo, patch, epaulets, PVC/PU coated fabric, partial flocking, printing.
1)The problem of o-benzene exceeding the standard
Standard: 0.1% limit of EU REACH regulation
There are 5 school uniforms with varying degrees of over-standard problems. Among them, 4 styles with the button at the neckline of the school uniforms exceed the standard, and the transparent plastic handle exceeds the standard with 1 model. This one is nearly 200 times exceeding the standard.
O-benzene has high mobility and is easily released from articles, and can enter the human body through the respiratory tract, digestive tract, skin and other channels. Ortho-benzene is reproductive toxicity, interferes with endocrine, reduces the quantity and quality of male sperm, and can cause testicular cancer in severe cases. Excessive exposure can increase the risk of breast cancer in women, and it will also harm the reproductive system of their future male babies.
2)Excessive pH value of fabric
Standard: GB18401-2010 “National Basic Safety Technical Code for Textile Products”
In accordance with the requirements of category B, the pH value of personal clothing must be between 4.0 and 8.5. In this evaluation, the pH value of a school uniform fabric exceeded the standard.
The normal pH of human skin should be between 5.5 and 7.0, slightly acidic. The pH value is too high, the alkalinity is too high, and the irritation is enhanced. It is easy to cause skin immune disorders and can cause symptoms such as dermatitis and skin itching.
3)The problem of the pungent smell
Standard: GB18401-2010 “National Basic Safety Technical Specifications for Textile Products” and the new national standard GB/T 31888-2015 “School Uniforms for Primary and Secondary School Students” have regulations on odor items.
For such an intuitive and directly judgeable item, one school uniform was judged unqualified due to a pungent odor in this evaluation.
The peculiar smell mainly includes musty smell, high boiling range petroleum smell, aromatic hydrocarbon smell, fishy smell, and so on. It smells uncomfortable, and symptoms such as nausea, dizziness, and chest tightness appear.
4)Fabric pilling problem
Standard: Level 3-4 required by GB/T 31888-2015
In this evaluation, there were 3 fabrics that failed to meet the requirements for pilling.
5)The problem of colorfastness to rubbing of fabric
Standard: GB 31701-2015 “Technical Specification for Safety of Textile Products for Infants and Children”
In this evaluation, one model was found to be unqualified.
Insufficient colorfastness causes clothing to fade easily. One is that it is easy to dye other clothes, and the other is that the dye falls off and can cause skin irritation.
6)The problem of the strength of the sleeve seam
Standard: GB/T31888-2015
As a result, 1 school uniform was found to be unqualified.
This may happen when the children’s sleeves are torn off during running and playing.
7)Fabric fiber composition problem
Standard: GB/T31888-2015
Needless to say, this kind of behavior is obviously to deceive consumers. In this evaluation, there are really two fabrics whose fiber content does not meet the requirements of the national standard. The national standard requires the cotton content to be no less than 35%, two school uniforms under this number.
China has just had enough food and clothing, and illiteracy has become less and less, but aesthetic illiteracy has never decreased. We don’t know how to be beautiful, so we need IKEA, and we need various sales offices to give everyone a basic vision of a beautiful life. As the population grows and the power class ages, the number of blind people around is still increasing. You can see the signs of unified shops all over the street. As for people, they are born with the power of beauty, just like the power of freedom and individuality. In today’s era, according to our observations and thinking, only when young people are financially and mentally independent can they have the power and money to discover themselves. The beauty.

China’s ugly school uniforms, to a certain extent, reduce the mutual malice among students. Our school has introduced Western-style school uniforms before. They are called dresses at school. They are divided into two types. In summer, girls wear light blue shirts and dark blue pleated skirts/trousers, with a blue and silver bow tie. The boy is in a light blue shirt and dark blue trousers/shorts, with a blue and silver tie. Spring and autumn girls are white shirts, black and white plaid skirts, black ties, and dark blue suit jackets. The boy is in a white shirt, dark gray pants, a black tie, and a dark blue jacket. At that time, the school’s rule was that a formal dress must be worn on Mondays, and on other days, you can choose any dress or sportswear. With the good-looking dresses, everyone is very happy and doesn’t want to wear sportswear anymore. However, in less than a month, except for the Monday that must be worn, many people don’t want to wear dresses anymore. Because it is not good-looking, all-girls hope that they will be like characters in Japanese anime, like Queen B in Gossip Girl. But in fact, there are not many girls who are very marked during puberty. Many people will become fat and their skin deteriorated due to the sudden and rapid growth of puberty. In addition, there is almost no time to dress up in high school and wear them in time. Even if you wear a good-looking school uniform, you can’t achieve the effect of becoming beautiful.
I have heard countless times that everyone talks about a certain girl behind her back: “So fat, don’t wear a dress. The coat won’t fit anymore.” “Sure enough, it has nothing to do with school uniforms. People who wear ugly are ugly. .” and many more. However, as more and more “ugly girls” and “fat girls” were ridiculed by their classmates, they no longer wear formal dresses. In addition, compared to sportswear, dresses are indeed more restrictive, so after the freshness is over, fewer and fewer people wear dresses. At this time, I pointed the finger at a “beautiful girl” like me, “People have long legs, but they have to show them to others.” “Uniform temptation, good school spirit will be taken away.” So neither did I. Wear a dress again.
Soon after, I went abroad and put on a Western-style school uniform again. I found that the school uniforms have matching leather shoes, and there will be no situation where basketball shoes are assembled in the west. The class does not start until 9 o’clock in the morning, and the girls are all beautifully blown up and put on makeup. The school has a matching locker room, and sports classes require changing clothes in advance. The school has zero tolerance for bullying and saying that others are ugly and others will be dealt with seriously.
Later, my school in China canceled the formal dress system because there was no one to wear it, but the sportswear was designed to look good. Although I don’t know for what purpose the school designed good-looking school uniforms, the final result was quite unexpected. In my opinion, not so much as parents talking about teachers, it is better to say that students themselves have great resistance when it comes to implementing good-looking school uniforms.

Why beautiful clothes must show your body? Orthodox Japanese school uniforms [especially sailor suits] tops don’t tuck in, as long as the shoulders are wide. Even if it is washed in a washing machine, it does not need to be scalded, it will be smooth after shaking. Uniform skirts basically have waist adjustment sliders, and they are not afraid of gaining weight. The skirts also have pockets. The shirts are worn by boys also have pockets. How does the pregnancy rate change when some schools change to Western-style school uniforms? Can suits and shirts not be waisted? Orthodox uniform skirts are down to the knee or even below the knee. There is no white horizontal line on the skirt. Miniskirts are only used in comics and TV series, but there are also girls who deliberately shorten skirts.
It is not a problem of washing and staining resistance at all. British school uniforms look pretty shaved, but they can all be washed. They are still neat after washing and drying, and they don’t need to be ironed at all. There is no difficulty in the production process. Why is school uniform sportswear and not a suit? Because you can’t wear suits for physical education, the school needs to provide changing rooms and lockers for school uniforms. However, most of the schools I have seen, especially key elementary schools, are most crowded in residential areas. The student population in the school area is oversaturated and even music Classrooms have to be set aside as classrooms, and there is no space for students to change clothes.

The reason is that the difficulty in adjusting the ugliness of school uniforms is the result of a game between the Education Bureau, manufacturers, schools, parents, and students. Take the case of Xiamen as an example. My classmate studied clothing design at university and also ran a clothing factory after graduation. As a representative of professionals and parents, she participated in a school uniform seminar for middle school students sponsored by Xiamen Education Bureau. I think she should be able to express some professional opinions on this issue, so I sent her the link to the question.
Regarding the few minor issues mentioned by the subject in the problem description, my classmate denied that there was a high-voicing reply to the lieutenant school (or the Education Bureau) in Xiamen City that received clothing rebates, saying that this was absolutely nothing. As for “Could it be that the school deliberately let the manufacturer design the school uniform so ugly, so that students don’t look good and have a good feeling for each other?” This sentence, she thinks, is real.
Mainly related to the problem: good school uniforms are more expensive, poor students can not afford to wear them, so everyone can only wear low-grade inferior school uniforms.
(Xiamen city middle school student) This 5-year school uniform has been discussed for almost 5 months, and ten seminars have been held before and after. Student representatives, parent representatives, school representatives, and manufacturer representatives each discussed once, and then various proposals and issues were discussed. In the later period, the bidding unit’s finished product display and all parties voted, and finally held in the Wuyuanwan campus of the Second Middle School. A catwalk. In short, the posture and work have been done sufficiently, but the result is still so unsatisfactory. There are many factors:
1)The fabric of this polyester cover cotton feels very bad, but in fact, I admit that from the perspective of cost performance, there is no more suitable fabric for sportswear. It is easy to clean, wear-resistant, quick-drying without wrinkle, and low cost;
2)Everyone talks about the school uniforms in Japan and Hong Kong. They don’t know that the cost of a school uniform for one year is 3,000 yuan. We can’t wait for 300 yuan for three years. During the meeting, we also proposed to increase the cost. It was immediately opposed by the Tongan Xinglin area. In fact, there are many poor students now. When bidding, every school uniform manufacturer must add 10% of the order to the poor students free of charge. Terms.
3)As for the color in the Siming area, the prototype was really not of this color when the bid was originally submitted. I don’t understand how it became like this when it was mass-produced.
4)The purpose of the rustic three bars is for the fluorescent band in the middle and for night safety.
The conclusion is that it is a myth to produce a set of beautiful and generous, low costs, can be worn for at least two years, easy to exercise, dirt-resistant, easy to wash, and dry. Unisex school uniforms are simply a myth.

South Korea’s school uniforms are similar to those of Japan, but they also have their own unique tastes and styles. There are even well-known brands of school uniforms, such as SMART. These brands will invite Korean idol celebrities to endorsements to increase social visibility and conduct commercial competition. Under the effect of the market’s survival of the fittest mechanism, it will inevitably promote the continuous optimization of the quality of school uniforms, so that the design of school uniforms will be in line with the world’s fashion trends. Countries such as Europe and the United States, which are known for their freedom, attach great importance to the design of school uniforms. After centuries of evolution, they have a long history and cultural precipitation. European and American boys generally wear orthodox suits and ties, while girls wear orthodox suits with collars and orthodox leather shoes.
In Japan, school uniforms are generally changed once every ten years. When it comes to replacement, the school will invite well-known designers to design. But in China, sports school uniforms have lasted for more than ten years, and there is no relatively fixed replacement time. The styles of each batch are similar except for the difference in color. It is difficult to distinguish students from different schools. The styles of school uniforms for middle school students in modern China are relatively simple, mainly divided into sportswear and uniforms, with sportswear being the majority. Considered from many aspects, this design has certain advantages. The sportswear is loose in style and can be adapted to various large-scale activities of the school, such as competitions and sports meets. At present, the color matching of sports school uniforms mostly uses different color stitching, using cyan and yellow, white and blue, black and white, red and white, etc., lacking a sense of detail design, and mainly taking leisure and convenience as the design concept. Although this style is loose and convenient, there are still many problems. School uniforms reflect the connotation of campus culture, and sports school uniforms cannot fully demonstrate the personality and spiritual outlook of students. In addition, according to related reports, most of the fabrics and production processes of Chinese school uniforms do not meet the needs of physiological hygiene.
So this is the current situation at home and abroad. If more designers can pay attention to schools and students, this situation may be improved.
I asked a middle school teacher why he wears such ugly uniforms for middle school students? It destroys the children’s aesthetic ability. Is this to prevent students from falling in love early? The teacher smiled bitterly and said that I also think the school uniforms are ugly, but it’s really not to prevent premature love, which can’t be prevented. The purpose of wearing a uniform school uniform is to allow children from different backgrounds to have an equal learning and social environment. I said you can design Good-looking school uniforms, the teacher replied that we can’t just blame the school. For example, boys’ suits and girls’ skirts are good-looking, but they need to be taken care of. Otherwise, it’s better not to wear wrinkled suits. Chinese families manage their children’s clothes. The level difference is too big, so I have to step back and wear ugly sportswear.

As a clothing manufacturer, I will answer this question by my real name. Cheap, this is the truth. It is too one-sided to say how much inside information is caused. There are selling and buying, there are transactions, there are inside information and rebates, but this is not the root cause of the unsightly school uniforms.
First of all, as a manufacturer of school uniforms, qualifications are required. The number of qualifications is dead. For example, there are only two qualifications in a district, and the remaining manufacturers will not have qualifications even if their strength is up to the standard. Then there is still cheaper, in fact, this is the point. A set of school uniforms costs less than tens of RMB 100. It seems that it is not much cheaper, but it is actually very affordable. Good-looking school uniforms are not made by schools. Yes, we have a key high school here. There are many children from wealthy families. Every year we make school uniforms similar to Japanese and Korean board styles, but they are rarely worn when they are not in school. The reason is that it is still affordable. . How many factors are involved in making a Korean school uniform? Two points. One is price, and the other is quantity. Needless to say, the price, what is the quantity? Seasonal factors, beautiful clothes must first reflect the figure, that is, self-cultivation. However, as the season changes, it needs to be changed. Suitable clothes in early autumn cannot be worn in winter. Thick clothes cannot be worn inside, and the weather is not good, and the air permeability is not good. Including physical education issues. And don’t underestimate the growth rate of students’ height. It’s set in spring, maybe you won’t be able to wear it in late autumn, at least one set for one year is affirmative. Are parents willing to buy?
The payment for school uniforms does not go through the school. The school sends to the students and the students pay the money, but the school does not pay. So the reason why school uniforms are all sports styles is obvious. They are loose, big, and not awkward to wear. It doesn’t matter what clothes they wear. They can be worn all year round. You can also wear them in physical education. , But also show the uniformity of school dress.
Chinese families now know how much they spend for their children in a year, and then add two or three sets of beautiful school uniforms to their annual expenses. The school is very afraid of parents’ objections. If you buy too much, the parents tell the media that the school will take rebates every year. profit. Only when the cost is reduced will parents feel accepted.

Haven’t you changed your school uniform? I’m 1.7 meters tall, I bought 155 school uniforms when I was in high school, and then I asked the tailor aunt to change it short and narrow. Wake up in the morning and after the first get out of class in the bathroom with classmates curling hair, really exercise people’s efficiency.
I once asked a foreigner this question, and the answer he gave me was very simple, that is, unbelievable that school uniforms do not distinguish between male and female styles.

Reflection:
The survey comes from the question on Zhihu: “Why there is no good-looking school uniform in China”. There are many stakeholders actively participating, such as high school students, college students who have just graduated from high school, and manufacturers. This Stakeholder research helped me better identify them and their concerns.
Participant TVCX said that most Chinese people don’t know what beauty is, which can be reflected in the unified shop signs on the streets. Only young people who are economically and mentally independent can discover their own beauty, but I think this time difference in mining, missed the golden time for personality development and creative development, creation is a habit.
Xin Jiu expressed his opinion that unsightly school uniforms reduce the malice among students. From her personal experience, dresses and skirt-style school uniforms will intensify disputes among students. For example, overweight girls will be ridiculed and bullied. The dominant girl will also be judged, and in the end she chooses not to wear a dress and changes back to sportswear. Comparing her later experience of going abroad to study in high school, she believes that there are several main reasons. First, Chinese schools ignore bullying, second, there is no sports class, no locker room to change school uniforms, third, no leather shoes matching clothes, and fourth class. It’s too early, there is no time to dress up.
Xuan Hong talked about the problem of improving school uniforms in China because it is too prominent. He mentioned the case of Japanese school uniforms. The tops do not close at the waist and the skirts have to be below the knees. The fabrics are not easy to fold, and they will be smooth after shaking. And there is a distinction between sportswear and skirt-style school uniforms. This reminded me to pay attention to the characteristics of fabrics and to take into account the convenience of physical education and school uniforms without changing.
Niao, as a clothing design graduate and the owner of a clothing factory, believes that the biggest obstacle is that the cost of high-quality school uniforms is too high and not all students can afford it, including the cost of fabrics and the high processing prices of the factory. She also provided details of the strict rules and regulations on school uniforms issued by the Education Bureau, such as the selection of fabric indicators and fluorescent signs on the front and back of the chest.
As a clothing manufacturer, Eric pointed out that the student’s growth rate is fast, so school uniforms must adapt to the three-year body change, the design and fabric of the clothes must be suitable for each season, and the cost must be low to meet these conditions.
Pansz is a high school student who just graduated. When she was studying, her school uniform was a size much smaller than her height. Even though she was often educated by the teacher, she never tried. She also put forward the idea that Chinese school uniforms do not distinguish between men’s and women’s clothing, which gave me a big reminder that the school is trying to conceal the physical difference between boys and girls and blur the gender.
In terms of uniform research, some scholars are also concerned about the cultural and political issues of education. Think about how uniforms function as a form of power that affects students’ bodies. Daphne Meadmore and Colin Symes believe that in Australian schools, school uniforms are not only a symbol of school discipline but also an important management tool. As a “practice of division”, school uniforms constantly confirm a certain subjectivity and exclude other schools, so as to decentralize the division of subjects to achieve the purpose of discipline. The appearance of the school uniform plays an important role. It can not only locate the “deviations” and “defects”, but also promote the “correct” appearance. With the help of Foucault’s concept, we can analyze and explore the appearance of different school uniforms, the different ways of wearing them, and the behaviors that stimulate resistance. Studying the procedures and conventions of uniforms is crucial to understanding how rights use the human body to achieve social and political goals. Ines Dussel believes that uniforms are an important factor in the various technologies that have long-term effects on the body. It combines “aesthetics, science, politics, and morality.” Using the viewpoint of body and power, thinking about how clothing becomes a powerful tool for social control, to prove a viewpoint: “subjectification” mainly acts through the body.
The uniform not only embodies rights but also expresses resistance. Although she believes that uniforms have a singular nature, in reality, uniforms are diverse and contradictory. In other words, although institutions are used to manage the body, it does not mean that they are always successful. Shauna Pomerantz found in a study on the “dress code” of girls in North American schools that some discourses impose “standardized” rights and control on girls, and position some girls as “irresponsible” and “deviant”. The “dress code” shapes students’ awareness of their bodies and trains them to manage themselves in school and society; however, at the same time, it also has the potential to tap and explore creative resistance. The above-mentioned studies are not willing to describe the school as a rigid system but hope to use Foucault’s theory to analyze and reveal the diversity and variability of these discipline programs.

Having read A Guide to Key Theorists: Thinking Through Fashion This book contains various philosophical theories about fashion, which expands my understanding of fashion and makes my research on fashion theory more professional and in-depth.
Chapter 11 Michel Foucauly’s chapter on fashioning the body politic is very helpful to me. He analyzes the relationship between body and power more deeply. His philosophy involves a neglected field in fashion research: clothing in daily life. Explore how power acts on the body. Many thinkers who are concerned about the appearance of society have adopted Foucauly’s power/knowledge model. They regard uniform uniforms as the emphasis of body culture on civic consciousness, and believe that uniforms embodies collective discipline.
The author of this book mentions that school uniforms can locate deviations and defects, promote the correct appearance, and internalize the “standardized gaze” of students. But wherever control is implemented, there is excess and resistance. The common method of resisting the norms of daily appearance is “propaganda feedback”. This is a resistance technique that young people like. These young people know that they have lived under the surveillance system all their lives and are very aware of the consequences of their criticism. Among them, “Although the system is used to manage the body, it does not mean that they are always successful”, indicating that school uniforms need to be changed.
Another important point I have learned from the article is to improve uniforms, to observe whether the “panorama” can detect and neutralize new social forms, and challenge those forces that “standardize” the power of the body. As the example mentioned in the article, to what extent can this society tolerate “excessive obesity”? And who is qualified to decide where to draw this level of line? All I have to do is to wipe off a little corner of that line, move the position of the line, and shake the image of standardization and authority.
The book mentioned how dissidents can improve uniforms, for example, sultwalk (rethinking the status quo of the female body as a battlefield in society) and the public pyjama wearing behavior of some young female workers in Liverpool (resisting dominant females with actual actions) The cases of Code of Conduct (Code of Conduct) are worthy of my in-depth study and reflection.
At the end of the article, it is also my favorite sentence. In daily power struggles, the body is the ultimate place to resist. It can further prove that I want to change the original intention of students to cultivate their own personality through school uniforms.
Alison mentioned in “The Language of Clothing” that in American high schools, “strange children wear Lee, bad boys and girls wear Wrangler, and ordinary children wear Levi’s.” Whether it is a shrewd compromise to social order, everyone will expand themselves in a specific visual impression. Academic style and punk style are typical examples.
In order to enclose people in one position, we temporarily put aside the possibility of becoming another “I”, converging our sensibility and behavior to the same meaning. In order to paralyze the feeling of other possibilities, we have designed all kinds of uniforms: students, soldiers, judges, doctors, postmen, flight attendants, waiters, athletes… However, it is not just uniforms that enforce visibility coding. . The important thing here is that according to the different styles of composition, it implies a symbol of global difference. As long as this symbol is activated, all clothes are uniforms. For example, in our society, “men” cannot wear skirts. p99
“I” fragility this anxiety about one’s own visibility can sometimes cause a cascading effect, which escalates into collective neuroticism. For example, the clothing regulations in schools. Under the norm of “appropriate appearance”, we have strictly controlled our visibility: bangs cannot be longer than eyebrows. If the hair is long enough to be tied up, it must be tied up or braided. Drifting is prohibited. Hair, dye hair, perm. p135
My visibility, this “me”, is finally known from others when I can’t see it. It’s like blindfolding and exposing his naked body in front of people. The existence of visibility is so scattered, we want to bring it under our own jurisdiction, fill the gap of visibility, always dream of enclosing ourselves in a completely enclosed membrane, and want to build a wall for ourselves, Interfere with your own visibility.
This kind of tearing in contradictions of fashion, suffering in “proportionality”, or people struggling in the imbalance of self-existence itself, is a real problem. “People often split and oppose themselves”

Reflective statement:
I looked in particular at chapter two of this book: “Hidden intent: Imaginary edge”. Here the author discusses the fragility of personal image, influenced by various aspects and people.
I was surprised to learn that in the open environment of the United States, dressing is much more open and free than in other countries and that there are also have examples of what types of kids wear what brands of clothes. College style and punk style subcultures with specific dressing styles are all coded with the same visibility, and each person follows a set of fixed dressing that others classify as their impression.
I learned from this article that visual coding is not only for school uniforms, but as soon as this symbol is activated all clothes are uniforms, for example, men cannot wear skirts, and skirts become uniforms for girls. What each person should do and wear seems to become a uniform for everyone.
The author mentions that fashion is always painful and on the verge of struggle, this is exactly what I want to change, I think clothing as a language has a great potential to bring people confidence and happiness.

I looked in particular at chapter two of this book: “Hidden intent: Imaginary edge”. Here the author discusses the fragility of personal image, affected by various aspects and crowds.
The book mentioned the case of American high schools. I was surprised. It turns out that in the open environment in the United States, dressing is much more open and free than in other countries. There are also examples of what kind of clothes are worn by all types of children. Academic JK uniform style and punk style subcultures with special dressing styles have the same visibility code, and everyone follows a set of fixed clothes that others have divided their impressions of.
I learned from this article that visibility coding is not just school uniforms, as long as this symbolizes that all clothes are uniforms, for example, men can’t wear skirts, and skirts become girls’ uniforms. What everyone should do and what to wear seems to be everyone’s uniform.
The author mentioned that fashion is always painful and on the verge of struggling. This is exactly what I want to change. I think clothing as a language has great potential to bring people confidence and happiness.
Uniforms can restrain and control the mind through the composition of their appearance. Use the same form, similar tones, etc. to clearly indicate the corresponding group. p81
Uniform’s restraint
The uniform savagely displays the results directly in front of people, and zeros out the “existence” of people into a kind of “attribute.”
When you want to find your identity by dressing up, the first thing you should do is to resist the uniform.
*
Reflection:
The author has a philosophical background, and the whole book is rather esoteric and difficult to understand. In fact, the book promotes an inventive mind— the human body is imaging rather than an object. I finished reading this book, which brought me more thinking about fashion. Fashion has a powerful influence as a language. At the same time, the author mentioned his views on uniforms. He believed that uniforms bound individuals, turning everyone into an attribute, such as turning different boys and girls into students. He emphasized that if you want to find yourself, the first thing to do is to resist uniforms, but I think that uniforms, as students’ daily dress, cannot be changed. How can we “resist” on this basis. If I redesigned a set of uniforms, and everyone wore exactly the same, but it was more fashionable, would it still be against the “personal”? This is linked to the question raised in the tutorial, How can someone express their individually whilst showing they are still in the collective.
These photos are from my high school days, taken from 2012 to 2013, at the sixth middle school in Qingdao, Shandong.
Fluorescent colors were popular at that time, so we will use a lot of fluorescent color items to show our personality. In the picture, there are fluorescent color watch headbands and school bags. The school uniforms are divided into spring and summer and autumn and winter, mainly gray and blue sports suits.
It is obvious from the picture that the students’ school pants have been changed in different ways. The original school pants were wide-legged. Most girls will close the trouser legs, which can show the leg lines.
The fashion club I founded at high school, in 2013, cooperated with school teachers to carry out a school uniform design activity. At 4:15 pm on May 29, 2013, the Clothes style club held a student clothing design activity in the lecture hall, and specially invited teacher Lu Jun To explain the characteristics of school uniforms around the world. The activity attracted more than 90 students to participate, and there were no empty seats in the lecture hall. The first sentence of Lu Jun at the beginning of the activity: “Do you like your current school uniform?” It caused everyone to laugh.

However, there was no response after this event. There was no feedback from the students’ design manuscripts, and the school’s activities were closed. The school leader’s attitude is to hope that students can produce excellent design drafts and then realize it, but for school students, It is difficult to complete independently without sufficient design experience, and a lack of independent aesthetics and fashion sense. As art students, our school lacks the ability to innovate in this area, and it may be more difficult for students in ordinary colleges to complete such tasks.
